About combs2jc

I am a dad first. I am also a writer, artist, submarine vet and adventurous. Most of my writing is non-fiction. I concentrate on memior and history. I also have an annual Christmas book I put out that is free, "Christmas Patrol". "Christmas Patrol" gives vetrans (multiple countries and services) a chance to encourage those men and women currently serving their country during the holidays. My readers have been asking for a website and here it is. Feel free to write, I read everything. Thank You!

And the Winner is …

As a writer, peer awards are prized. An award by others in your field is a stamp of approval that you are doing all the technical things correctly (a big relief, and also hard to self-judge).

However, a reader’s choice award is the most humbling, encouraging, and rewarding. Writers and authors write for you the reader (and for ourselves) and sometimes it is very hard for us to know if we are succeeding. A reader’s choice award is that approval.

I would like to thank Ms. Walsh and Ms. Burdette for helping to make our web site a better web site. I would also like to extend to both of the authors an open invitation to contribute to our web site in the future.

Thank you ladies you have both been greatly appreciated by us all.

And now the winner of the 2012 Reader’s Choice Award goes to:

Ms. J.G. Burdette

Congratulations J.G.

Please join me in commending Ms. Burdette and Ms. Walsh.

One Lovely Blog Award

one-lovely-blog-award1

I want to thank J.G. Burdette ( www.jgburdette.wordpress.com ) for nominating me for this award. I am humbled and thankful . I began writing with the purpose to entertain and to hopefully help other people.

Seven random things about me … mmmm.

1) Sometimes at the end of a hard week I like to relax with a little bourbon, alot of water and ice in a tall glass while listening to Mozart with my eyes closed in my favorite chair.

2) I spent almost nine years on submarines in the United States Navy.

3) I am willing to try almost anything that catches my interest.

4) I am also an award winning chess player, artist, and carver (a few other things too, but those are the ones I enjoy the most).

5) I won my first writing contest when I was just a school boy.

6) I like fishing and sometimes even  use bait; though most of the time I don’t want to be bother with reeling them in (I can’t prove it, but I think the fish appreciate this too).

7) I like people, all kinds of people. If I ever disappear on you I am probably off somewhere listening to a strangers story. Everyone has them, and they are all so unique and interesting.

Once again I would like to say Thank you for this award.

Thank You !!!

Thank You !!!

2012 in review — Thank You ! To all of my readers!

I don’t normally post this kind of information. I view this site as a Sunday morning conversation between us, and stats cannot possibly tell THAT story. So if you feel the same, don’t bother with this, but if you are curious WordPress did a really good job with this report. I want to take this opportunity to say Thank You to ALL of you. I hope in 2013 you follow your dreams and have a GREAT year.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 26,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 6 Film Festivals

Click here to see the complete report.
